Wellington trains with Flu youth team ahead of Final

Fluminense forward Wellington Silva rejoined the Fluminense youth team that developed him this week as the Tricolor looked to strengthen their side ahead of the Junior State Championship final.

The Brazilian teenager, who is set to join Arsenal in January once he turns 18, has been allowed to leave the first team squad after he was called upon by Fluminense youth team coach Mário Marques with the Rio de Janeiro based club looking to win the championship for the second time in three seasons.

The first leg of the final will take place today at the Estádio Luso Brasileiro with the second leg being played at Estádio Eustáquio Marques on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Wellington has picked out who he believes has been the stand out players at this year’s World Cup. In a blog for Lancenet the highly rated starlet unsurprisingly named Germany as the most impressive team at the tournament.

“Germany were widely criticised for having a pragmatic team, which did not play nice football. However, the team that went to the World Cup is full of new talent, presenting beautiful football, attacking and efficient.

The players who make up the midfield are all under 25 years old. The number 8, Mesut Özil, only 21, is one of the star names of this World Cup. He has great skill and speed – he connects with the attack brilliantly. Already Schweinsteiger, 25, is complete.

However, the ace of Germany in my opinion is Thomas Müller, the Bayern Munich player. He has scored four goals in the tournament and appears to be a strong candidate to win the award for World Cup player of the tournament.”

He also picked out Uruguay’s Luis Suarez as a “natural born goalscorer”, saying that he deserves the “title of national hero” following his now infamous goal-line handball against Ghana in the quarter final.

For Spain he highlighted one of less obvious players, stating that in Barcelona forward Pedro they had “a powerful weapon on the bench: a player of great skill, great speed and excellent power.”

And the 17 year old also had praise for one member of the young Ghana side who Suarez helped to defeat last week.

“Andre Ayew, the 20 year old, was one of the surprises of the competition for me. The athlete is a great midfielder and has great technique and speed. He had already won the U20 World Cup last year, when he was one of the highlights of the Ghana team. And again he was crucial for his team, this time in the World Cup.”

He saved his criticism for last, choosing Yoann Gourcuff as his biggest disappointment.

“I expected a lot from him in this competition. He played well in the Champions League. He was crucial to a good Bordeaux campaign in that competition.

I believe that playing his best football, France would have gone further in the World Cup.”
