Wellington eager to impress on England trip

Brazilian starlet Wellington Silva will begin a month-long spell at Arsenal in the coming days as he looks to adjust to life in London ahead of his move in the next transfer window.

Having impressed on trial last year, Wellington was snapped up by Arsene Wenger in a deal that meant the teenager will officially become an Arsenal player when he turns 18 in January next year.

Part of that deal enables the Brazil U17 international to travel to England for a period of 30 days in order to adjust to life at Arsenal before he arrives permanently, and the exciting young forward is looking to impress during his temporary stay at the club this summer.

“It’s very nice to be able to go back to England. It’ll be a great chance. I think that’s the moment to show my football and please the boss. I want to arrive at Arsenal and get to know everyone at the club better, because I think that’s the best way for me to feel at home. That’s why I’ll do my best with this opportunity I’m getting.”

Wellington recently set himself the target of being a part of the Brazil squad at the Olympics in 2012 and he’s been encouraged by the approach new Brazilian coach Mano Manezes has taken after Manezes named a young side for the national team’s next friendly.

“I really liked the players called up by Mano. I believe it was about time to call younger players, because of the Olympics. A renovation was needed in the Brazil squad. I’m going to prepare myself so I can deserve to be called. This is my opportunity. I’ll do what it takes to grab it.”
