Bolivian Under 20 International Samuel Galindo is expected to finally complete his long-awaited move to Spanish side UD Salamanca after the teenager travelled to Spain yesterday.

The loan deal taking the 17 year old to Spain was agreed earlier this summer but problems with his paperwork had delayed the move until now.

As with Mexican star Carlos Vela and more recently Brazilian wing-back Pedro Botelho, his stay at Salamanca will help his adaptation to European football as he looks to prepare himself for his switch to Arsenal at a later date. The Gunners sealed the signing of the former Real America player following a trial at the club in January.

Before leaving Bolivia Samuel Galindo emphasised the importance of the spell in Spain to prepare him for his move to England.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to gain confidence before playing at a team as important as Arsenal, who are important figures in world football.”

He also took the chance to congratulate the Bolivian Under 15 side who recently clinched gold at the Singapore Youth Olympic games, with his brother Pedro Galindo playing as a goalkeeper for the champions.

“That kind of tournament can show the conditions that you have and I wish all the players the best [in the future].”

Samuel Galindo will wear the number 16 shirt at Salamanca when he is officially announced in the coming days.

Arsenal starlet Emmanuel Frimpong has made it clear that he is keeping his feet on the ground despite the hype surrounding him following an excellent pre-season at the club.

His reward for the hard work in the Gunners’ Austrian training camp was a starting spot against AC Milan, and speaking exclusively to the Islington Gazette the tough tackling midfielder says it was an honour to take the field against household names like Clarence Seedorf and Gennaro Gattuso.

“To be honest I was nervous before the game but once the game started I was just happy to be out on the pitch and then you just get on with it like any other game.

I am just happy the boss has given me the chance to play, to put an 18-year-old on the pitch for a team like Arsenal against Milan and against players like Seedorf and Gattuso. To be in the midfield against them was a great test for me and Jack.”

He received rave reviews for his performances against both Milan and Celtic as Arsenal won the Emirates Cup at the weekend, but Frimpong knows there is plenty of competition ahead of him at the club.

“Players like Song and Denilson will come back in and at the end of the day and they are better players than me at the moment,” he said with refreshing honesty. “I know that, but whatever opportunities I get I will try and take them.

Training with them every day, it can be hard for young players to come in but I have learned a lot and I think it is making me stronger.”

Despite his recent successes, Frimpong hasn’t forgotten the people who helped get him this far. Originally born in Kumasi in Ghana, the teenager arrived in North London as a nine year old and quickly developed a passion for football. He was spotted by Broadwater Farm FC, and their coach Clasford Stirling, a well known name in youth football around that area. Stirling soon saw the talent and set up a trial at Arsenal for Frimpong, and the youngster hasn’t looked back since.

“Clasford has done so much for the people in Tottenham. A lot of the kids would be on the street doing bad things if it wasn’t for him.

When I first started training we had to pay to train and I didn’t have any money but he let me train. I wouldn’t be here now if it wasn’t for him. I know that and I will always be thankful to him for that.”

Looking to the future, Frimpong is set to discover whether or not Wenger will include him in his plans for this season or whether a temporary move away from the club will be the next step, with several interested clubs in the frame.

“There are rumours I might be going on loan, maybe Southampton or Charlton or somewhere like that.”

But I am going to meet with the boss next week and talk about what is best. It helps you and when you play in front of thousands of people every week you get more and more used to it. So I will sit with the boss next week and see what he says.”

Arsenal striker Gilles Sunu will talk with Arsene Wenger this week ahead of a temporary move back to his homeland.

Having scored the crucial equaliser as his national side went on to win the U19 European Championship last month, the 19 year old is full of confidence ahead of the new season where he hopes he can push on as he looks to break into the Arsenal side.

But the Frenchman, who enjoyed a mixed loan spell with Derby last season, is more than willing to leave on loan again if that’s what it takes to achieve his long term goal.

“I must return to Arsenal in the course of next week to have a conversation with the club. I’ll see what happens. If I can get playing time, I’ll stay there. If this is not the case, I will go on loan. The club will decide. My main target is still to succeed at Arsenal.”

Unsurprisngly, Sunu is attracting several teams as they look to strengthen ahead of the new season and there have been rumours of interest from several top French clubs, something that the former Châteauroux youngster welcomes.

“I would rather return to France although I would have no problem with staying in England. There are some French and English clubs that were there during the European Championship and who have expressed an interest. But there is nothing really concrete yet.

Bordeaux is one of the clubs that followed me for some time. But for now, it remains an unofficial interest. I also heard yesterday that Nice were following me. I don’t know for sure, but as they say, there is no smoke without fire “.

Now in his late teens and with plenty of competition both ahead of him and behind him in the Arsenal ranks a successful loan spell will be vital if he wants to achieve success with Arsenal in the future.

Brazilian starlet Wellington Silva will begin a month-long spell at Arsenal in the coming days as he looks to adjust to life in London ahead of his move in the next transfer window.

Having impressed on trial last year, Wellington was snapped up by Arsene Wenger in a deal that meant the teenager will officially become an Arsenal player when he turns 18 in January next year.

Part of that deal enables the Brazil U17 international to travel to England for a period of 30 days in order to adjust to life at Arsenal before he arrives permanently, and the exciting young forward is looking to impress during his temporary stay at the club this summer.

“It’s very nice to be able to go back to England. It’ll be a great chance. I think that’s the moment to show my football and please the boss. I want to arrive at Arsenal and get to know everyone at the club better, because I think that’s the best way for me to feel at home. That’s why I’ll do my best with this opportunity I’m getting.”

Wellington recently set himself the target of being a part of the Brazil squad at the Olympics in 2012 and he’s been encouraged by the approach new Brazilian coach Mano Manezes has taken after Manezes named a young side for the national team’s next friendly.

“I really liked the players called up by Mano. I believe it was about time to call younger players, because of the Olympics. A renovation was needed in the Brazil squad. I’m going to prepare myself so I can deserve to be called. This is my opportunity. I’ll do what it takes to grab it.”

Brazilian starlet Wellington Silva has been described as “one of the best players” Fluminense has produced by youth team coach Bruno Costa following his side’s 2-0 second leg defeat in the Junior State Championship.

Wellington was called upon by Costa for the final but failed to make a key difference as Vasco ended up 2-1 aggregate winners, but Bruno Costa has defended Xerém, Fluminense’s Academy, insisting they should be proud of what they have achieved since he took his current role in 2007.

“Since assuming management of Xerém in 2007, we have had players called up for Brazil at many different levels, from the U13s to the U20s. In this period, we sent over 30 players to the professional staff, such as Maicon, Alan and Digão, among others. I believe we are on track.

In the last three years, we won 29 titles, some of paramount importance. In 2007, we became the first Brazilian club to lift the trophy in Under-17 Milk Cup in Northern Ireland. In 2008, we won the Triple Crown Carioca when we were champions of the three main categories (infant, juvenile and junior), and even won national and world stages of the Manchester United Premier Cup Under 15s, when the boy Wellington Silva shined as one of the best players that Xerém have produced in recent years . In addition, Fluminense is the current state juvenile champion. This year, we won the World Cup Under-17 BMG, beating Cruzeiro in the final. We prepare players at Xerém so they reach the first team used to playing great games and winning titles.”

Wellington Silva will now return to training with the first team and is targeting a place in the starting eleven having lost his place since the arrival of coach Muricy Ramalho, but knows he will have to be patient.

“Every player wants to play from the beginning of the game, and I’m no different. I respect my club mates and the options of the coach Muricy, but I work hard to start. I will always fight for it. If the coach selects me, I will grab the opportunity with all the force I can and devote myself to the utmost to win my place in the team.

The coach always pays special attention to players who are not playing. As he has said, this is very important for players who are out of the lineup. Therefore, strong work during training to try me out. Those are the moments I have to show my football and draw the attention of the manager.”

Wellington is set to visit Arsenal in the near future ahead of his move to England in January, having so far made a total of 17 appearances for Tricolor this year.

Fluminense forward Wellington Silva rejoined the Fluminense youth team that developed him this week as the Tricolor looked to strengthen their side ahead of the Junior State Championship final.

The Brazilian teenager, who is set to join Arsenal in January once he turns 18, has been allowed to leave the first team squad after he was called upon by Fluminense youth team coach Mário Marques with the Rio de Janeiro based club looking to win the championship for the second time in three seasons.

The first leg of the final will take place today at the Estádio Luso Brasileiro with the second leg being played at Estádio Eustáquio Marques on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Wellington has picked out who he believes has been the stand out players at this year’s World Cup. In a blog for Lancenet the highly rated starlet unsurprisingly named Germany as the most impressive team at the tournament.

“Germany were widely criticised for having a pragmatic team, which did not play nice football. However, the team that went to the World Cup is full of new talent, presenting beautiful football, attacking and efficient.

The players who make up the midfield are all under 25 years old. The number 8, Mesut Özil, only 21, is one of the star names of this World Cup. He has great skill and speed – he connects with the attack brilliantly. Already Schweinsteiger, 25, is complete.

However, the ace of Germany in my opinion is Thomas Müller, the Bayern Munich player. He has scored four goals in the tournament and appears to be a strong candidate to win the award for World Cup player of the tournament.”

He also picked out Uruguay’s Luis Suarez as a “natural born goalscorer”, saying that he deserves the “title of national hero” following his now infamous goal-line handball against Ghana in the quarter final.

For Spain he highlighted one of less obvious players, stating that in Barcelona forward Pedro they had “a powerful weapon on the bench: a player of great skill, great speed and excellent power.”

And the 17 year old also had praise for one member of the young Ghana side who Suarez helped to defeat last week.

“Andre Ayew, the 20 year old, was one of the surprises of the competition for me. The athlete is a great midfielder and has great technique and speed. He had already won the U20 World Cup last year, when he was one of the highlights of the Ghana team. And again he was crucial for his team, this time in the World Cup.”

He saved his criticism for last, choosing Yoann Gourcuff as his biggest disappointment.

“I expected a lot from him in this competition. He played well in the Champions League. He was crucial to a good Bordeaux campaign in that competition.

I believe that playing his best football, France would have gone further in the World Cup.”

According to a report by Young Guns Arsenal are set to join a host of clubs in pulling out the Premier Reserve League ahead of the new season.

This move would come as a shock to many after several comments by the club earlier in the season suggested that they felt that the reserve league system could still work as a bridge to senior football despite fierce criticism of how it was run.

But with Fulham, Birmingham City and Stoke City following in the footsteps of Spurs after they quit 12 months ago, it seems Arsenal have changed their stance with the proposed revamp of the set up failing to convince the Gunners to submit a team for 2010/11.

Instead Young Guns speculate that the club will send far more players out on loan, with those that remain with the club training with the first team and playing in friendlies over the season along with first team members returning from injury.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————–

We’re yet to have confirmation of this news but with Young Guns normally very reliable it seems a pretty certain move from the club.

For me it points at there being a disagreement over the proposed re-development of the system and the move coming as a result of too many teams dropping out from the league. The positive factor that comes from this is that it should see far more players gain experience out on loan, but loan moves can be a make or break step for some players which is why the reserve league exists. With that option no longer there it seems to leave the likes of Banfield with far more difficult judgements over how prepared each player is for a move. The reserve league gave the U18 players a chance to dip their toes in and see what level they were at before any loan move was considered, as well as a more easily available shopping window for managers to come down and take a look at a potential loanee and there will no longer be that stepping stone from youth football to professional leagues which is sad to see. We’re yet to see how it works out of course, but it also appears to take away the opportunity for many fans to see the potential stars of the future in the red and white until they reach first team level.

It’s certainly an interesting time for youth football in this country.

Following his full Watford debut against Swansea last week, Arsenal and England starlet has spoken to Watford’s Official website on his move from one side of the London Colney fence to the other.

The talented midfielder enjoyed getting his name in the starting line up in the draw against the Swans and hopes it’s a sign of things to come as he looks to get valuable experience to take back to the Gunners.

“It was good to get to know how the team play and I fully enjoyed it” said Lansbury.

“It has made me more determined to get in the team every week now. I’ve come here to learn and to play football, which is what I’ll do.”

Last season he rejected the chance to join a Premier League or Championship club on loan in favour of going to League 1 with Scunthorpe, and he feels that experience has set him up to try a higher level this term with Watford.

“I think playing at Watford will be another great learning curve in my career and playing in the championship is a great experience for any young player.

“I was lucky enough to have a great loan period with Scunthorpe in League One last season, and they were promoted to the Championship while I was there.

“Being at Watford is definitely a step-up and a move forwards for me in my career so far so I hope I do well here. I wanted to come here, play well and get the team into a good league position by the time I leave – so they are my aims now.”

Lansbury had a busy summer this summer before joining Watford and was named one of Uefa’s “Ones to Watch” following his performances in the Uefa Under 19 Championships and he feels turning out for his country is a vital step in his career progression.

“International experience is a great step in a player’s career. It’s all about playing and training with good players from other clubs in various leagues and having the chance to interact with different people. It means you experience different types of play, skills and tactics that you don’t necessarily get at your domestic clubs.”

Arsenal may not have Lansbury available to play for them at the moment, but they don’t have to go far to see the youngster train with Watford’s training ground just the other side of the fence from the state of the art London Colney, something that makes it very easy for the Arsenal coaches to check on the 18 year old regularly.

“I didn’t have far to come – Watford’s training ground is just over the fence from Arsenal’s! With it being so close, it means the coaches at Arsenal can easily hop over and check up on how I’m doing here which is really good.”
